2016 VW Golf R: Is DCC worth it?

Car shoppers checking out the 2016 Golf R tend to be real diehard enthusiasts. They have just two trim levels to choose from, and the price gap is actually pretty small. But don’t be fooled. At Hall VW, we believe the difference between these two trims is the biggest one in the whole VW lineup. And we should know — we have both of these cars in our showroom right now. If you’re on the fence about which Golf R to get, we recommend test driving both to feel the difference for yourself. If that’s not an option for you, then just read on to find out about the 2016 VW Golf R: Is DCC worth it?

If you’re reading this, you’re probably pretty familiar with the Golf R and what an exciting car it is. Since the mythical Golf R400 has been cancelled and the GTI Clubsport S won’t be coming to the US, this Golf R is the fastest, most fun Golf you’ll be able to get your hands on for a while.

As you can see from this table, the DCC package is a lot more than just extra driving modes for twisty roads. You also get bigger wheels for more bling factor, a bigger touchscreen with navigation, and the 400-watt Fender sound system. Now, even if you think you’ll never take a break from your daily commute, drive out to some side roads, flip the DCC into Race mode and experience the precision cornering and active handling of the Golf R being pushed to its limits… even if you think you’ll never do all that, we still think the DCC package is not to be passed up.

At a price difference of just $2,245, honestly, we think the other three items in this package alone are practically worth the cost. When you add in the fun of the Dynamic Chassis Control, this becomes a package that can’t be beat. If you want to have the ultimate performance VW, it has to have DCC. This Golf R will the be top-performing VW and the most versatile hatchback for the foreseeable future. So, if you have your heart set on a Golf R, we think you should go all the way.
