Which 2018 Volkswagen SUV is the Right Model for You?

2018 VW Atlas and Tiguan Comparison

With the 2018 Atlas, the latest model of Volkswagen SUV, officially on the market, Volkswagen is giving potential buyers two new SUVs to choose from. Both the Atlas and the 2018 Tiguan share various great convenience and safety features, such as Pedestrian Monitoring, Fender Premium Audio and 4-Motion All Wheel Drive, but which model is right for you? Here is a 2018 VW Atlas and Tiguan comparison.

Seating 2018 vw atlas yellow

The biggest and most obvious difference between the Atlas and the Tiguan is the size of the two models. While the standard trim of Tiguan is a 5-passenger vehicle, the Atlas adds a third row of two seats, making it a 7-passenger vehicle. For this reason alone, the Atlas is certainly the better choice of the two for larger families.

Storage

With more seating of course comes more storage space, and in this category, the Atlas dominates. The Tiguan is certainly no slouch at storage at 73.5 cubic feet of space, 30 % better than the 2017 model. However, the Atlas has a whopping 96.8 cubic feet of storage, giving drivers more space for a variety of lifestyles.

With the extra size of the Atlas also comes much more power. At 236 horsepower and 235 lb-ft of torque, compared to 184 hp and 221 lb-ft for the Tiguan, the Atlas is guaranteed to have the power to get the job done. However, with the lower horsepower comes better gas mileage for the Tiguan, so if the space and power of the Atlas is unnecessary, the Tiguan might be the better choice for you.

Towing

With this extra strength in the Atlas also comes towing ability. At a towing capacity of 5,000 pounds, the Atlas can easily tow most trailers. This makes the Atlas perfect for camping, moving and much more.
