Car shoppers checking out the 2016 Golf R tend to be real diehard enthusiasts. They have just two trim levels to choose from, and the price gap is actually pretty small. But don’t be fooled. If you’re on the fence about which Golf R to get, we recommend test driving both to feel the difference for yourself. If that’s not an option for you, then just read on to find out about the 2016 VW Golf R: Is DCC worth it? (more…)
After nearly two years as a concept car, Volkswagen has finally said that it will produce a limited run of the Golf R400, the most powerful Golf ever. The final version of the car will make its debut in March at the Geneva International Motor Show. But rumor has it the car will no longer be called the R400. Volkswagen has changed its name to the Golf R420. That can only mean one thing: There are now 20 more horses in the stable! Instead of a supercar-beating 200 hp per liter, it will be making an unheard-of 210 hp per liter. Before we get carried away, let’s see how the current R400 concept compares to the real-world Golf R.
How well does the Volkswagen Golf R do in the snow?
If you’re shopping for a new car and you live in a state that experiences all four seasons, it’s super important to consider snowy driving in your purchase. Much of the northern U.S. receives snowfall for six months of the year. That means you could be spending up to half of your driving time on the white stuff. You’d better take a serious look at a Volkswagen with 4MOTION all-wheel drive, like the Golf R. (more…)
2016 Volkswagen Golf R vs Golf GTI Clubsport
To celebrate 40 years of the GTI, Volkswagen is releasing the GTI Clubsport, a special edition hot hatch that the German automaker is calling “the most powerful production GTI ever.” Unfortunately, the powerful new edition to the GTI stable will not be making its way to the states, meaning the Golf R will remain as the only high-output front-drive VW available here. That’s not a bad thing, as the Golf R is still an impressive specimen, but it would be nice if VW would throw us a bone and deliver us the Clubsport.
We understand that the Golf R is not a GTI, but as members of the Golf family, the two are cut from the same cloth, and they offer a number of similarities. To clear up any questions about which of the two is superior, and in an attempt to cheer us up about the fact that we won’t ever see the Clubsport, we thought it would be helpful to take a closer look at how the 2016 Golf R compares to the GTI Clubsport.
