2020 Volkswagen Atlas Cargo Space
The 2020 Atlas is the newest iteration of the excellent three-row midsize SUV from Volkswagen. One of the characteristics that made the Atlas so desirable in the past was its extensive cargo space. Does this year’s model carry on that tradition?
How big is the cargo area of the 2020 Volkswagen Atlas?
Volkswagen Atlas Cargo Space
There are three different cargo space dimensions, one for each row of seats in the Atlas. Behind the third row, there is 20.6 cu-ft of space. With the third-row 60/40-split seats folded down, there is 55.5 cu-ft of space. With the second row of (optional) captain’s chairs folded down, there is a gargantuan 96.8 cu-ft of space available. To make matters even better, the seats fold flat, making storage easy. A power liftgate and a hands-free power liftgate are both available add-ons.
Volkswagen Atlas Seating Capacity
The Atlas is a three-row midsize SUV, placing its standard capacity at seven. However, with the much sought-after captain’s chairs installed, the capacity is lowered to six. The rearmost seats, the ones usually dubbed at “children’s seats” in other three row vehicles, can easily and comfortably accommodate even adults over six feet tall.
Volkswagen Atlas Safety Features
Plenty of safety features are found on the 2020 Atlas. Standard features include a rearview camera, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, a post-collision braking system, forward collision alert, and automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection. More features are available for those who want them. That list includes front/rear parking sensors, a surround view camera system, parallel parking assist, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams.
