2020 Atlas Cross Sport Utility Specs
The new 2020 Atlas Cross Sport is just around the corner. We’re excited. It’s the newest SUV offering by Volkswagen and it’s looking pretty sweet. We’re sure the “Sport” part will be great, but how much utility does this “Sports Utility Vehicle” have?
How many seats does the 2020 VW Atlas Cross Sport have?
Seating and Cargo Capacity
Unlike it’s three-row Atlas sibling, the Atlas Cross Sport is only available with two-row seating. That means the seating maxes out at 5 people. With the Atlas and Tiguan both having standard three-row seating (except the AWD Tiguan, where two-row seating is standard, but three-row seating available), Volkswagen decided to offer a sporty 5-seater SUV. It is also 2.8 inches shorter than the Atlas. However, it doesn’t sacrifice utility. With the rear seats down, the Atlas Cross Sport maximizes its cargo space, measuring in at 77.8 cu-ft.
Towing and AWD Capability
The Atlas Cross Sport comes standard with a turbo charged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that pumps out 235 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. There is a 3.6-liter V6 option as well, which produces 276 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque. If you plan to do any hauling with your Atlas Cross Sport, we recommend the V6, as its towing capacity is 5,000 lbs. The 2020 Atlas Cross Sport sits 2.3 inches lower than the Atlas, giving it a lower center of gravity. This improves handling. Paired with the lowered stance, the 4Motion AWD system dynamically senses when wheel slippage and traction loss happen or are likely to happen. It automatically sends power to the rear wheels, giving you grip when you need it and increased fuel economy when conditions are good.
