Volkswagen Introduces All-New 2022 Taos X-Small Crossover
The Tiguan. The Atlas. The Atlas Cross Sport. Three excellent SUVs that were all critically well received. The all-electric ID.4 is also on it’s way, aiming to be the first real crossover EV on the market. But even before the ID.4, there were rumors of another all-new SUV…
Is Volkswagen making a new SUV? Yes. Yes, it is. Meet the Taos.
Taos: An Entry Compact SUV
A few weeks ago, Volkswagen officially revealed the all-new 2022 Taos (pronunciation: rhymes with “house” or “mouse”), what it’s calling an “entry compact SUV.” It slots below the Tiguan in the lineup. Naturally, it’s smaller than the Tiguan, measuring in at 175.8 inches, a full 9.3 inches shorter than the Tiguan. However, it can still hold quite a bit. With the rear seats in place, it has 28.1 cu-ft of cargo space; with the rear seats down, it has 66.3 cu-ft. It is available in both FWD and AWD. FWD models have an eight-speed automatic transmission. AWD models have a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. Regardless of drivetrain and transmission, the 2022 Taos is powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 158 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque.
Not every feature for the 2022 Taos has been confirmed, but a few have. Among the most exciting is the IQ.DRIVE® safety suite. It includes forward collision warning with autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go function, blind spot monitoring, lane keep assist, automatic high-beam headlights, adaptive headlights, park distance control, emergency assist, and travel assist. Every Taos will also have the VW Digital Cockpit® gauge cluster display, an integrated Wi-Fi hotspot, and Car-Net® functionality.
