What is the VW Passat GT?
At Automobility LA, Volkswagen unveiled the Passat GT concept which was designed by the North American engineering hub in Tennessee. The concept was created based on extensive feedback from U.S. customers and dealers and it features fresh styling updates with a powerful VR6 engine. The Passat GT concept definitely shows potential to being added to the Passat lineup in the future. According to Volkswagen, the Passat GT is an example of how Volkswagen will meet the needs and desires of American customers.
VW Passat GT Design and Features
There were more than 20 design changes from the standard Passat to make the GT a unique and eye-catching sedan. The front of the Passat GT features a black honeycomb grille insert with red accent lines that are similar to those of the Volkswagen Golf GTI. The upgrades include unique bumper treatments, black window surrounds, a black roof and trunk spoiler, LED headlights, smoked taillights, a dual trapezoidal exhaust and a sport muffler. The 19-inch Tornado wheels cover red-painted brake calipers, and a .6-inch reduction in ride height gives the Passat GT concept a road-hugging stance.
Inside, the Passat GT creates a sportier atmosphere with carbon-fiber pattern door trim and instrument panel, two-tone black and gray sport seats with contrast stitching, a black headliner and piano black center console trim.
VW Passat GT Engine and Performance
The Passat GT concept is powered by the Volkswagen 3.6-liter TSI VR6 engine which makes 280 horsepower and is matched with a six-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission, controlled through shift paddles that are located behind the steering wheel.
While we don’t know for certain that we could see a Passat GT in the near future, it is a definite possibility that this may become a reality. Check out our blog for other Volkswagen news and information on current VW models that are available now.
