2019 Volkswagen Atlas vs 2019 Toyota Highlander
SUVs and crossovers dominate the automotive market. Which makes sense given their versatility. SUVs, for instance, provide the comparable carrying capacity of a pickup paired with similar seating options to a minivan. Due to the body style's popularity, the sheer amount of available options can be overwhelming.
Today, we’ll compare two of the most popular SUV options on the market: the 2019 Volkswagen Atlas SE and the 2019 Toyota Highlander LE.

Class-Leading Cargo Space
The Highlander has 13.8 cubic feet of storage space behind the third row, which is about the average size of a sedan trunk. With both rear rows down, the Highlander still only has 83.2 cubic feet of cargo space. The Atlas dwarfs those dimensions. Behind the third row of the Atlas is 20.6 cubic feet of space. When the second and third rows are folded down, the storage space of the Atlas almost quintuples to an unbelievable 96.8 cubic feet. To compliment that cavernous cargo capability is an optional hands-free tailgate opener. For those prospective buyers looking to maximize utility, the Atlas is at the top.
Accommodating Seating Capacity
The Highlander boasts one more seat than the Atlas. However, this is slightly misleading. No matter how far forward you move the second row forward, adults will not fit in the third row of the Highlander, effectively cutting seating capacity down to five if you plan to transport only adults. The third row in the Atlas will comfortably seat three adults, as long as they’re under 6’0”.
